125g Hydrothermal Tailings (Half Scoop)

£12.00

Description

An exciting  opportunity to own a piece of prehistoric Scottish History!

These smaller packs of minerals are sourced from exactly the same regions as our larger packs of panning concentrate but have already been through a sluicing process to extract the larger pieces of gold. The “tailings” left over are full of prehistoric inclusions together with occasional traces of gold and were formed millions of years ago by a natural hydrothermal process.

With the use of modern technology, the recovery rate from the sluicing process is between 94% and 97% meaning that small traces of gold, often invisible to the naked eye, are likely to remain. The resulting sluicing waste is not financially viable to re-process – hence this opportunity!

Ideal for the enthusiast or collector with an interest in owning a piece of Scottish geological history, these packs, supplied direct from  the land of rugged mountains and deep blue lochs, make the perfect gift and are ideal for anyone with an interest in the prehistoric glacier formations of the Scottish Highlands or in geology in general.

Information on the geology of the Scottish Highlands and how the deposits of gold were originally formed can be found by studying this rather interesting poster created by the University of Leeds:-

Every pack of Hydrothermal Tailings is guaranteed to include at least a trace of gold! We must, however, emphasize that although present, the amount of gold will vary from pack to pack and could either be a dusting presence, specks or tiny particles and may not be visible or picked-out.
